Hi, I’m Maggie of The Modern Eden

Starting a little farm has been my dream since childhood, where I grew up in the suburbs of Portland, OR. Until my 30s, I enjoyed the freedom of travel while flipping homes in Oregon, then Austin, TX, so I could build capital to start The Modern Eden. I spent years looking for the right piece of property, and in 2021, when I felt the energy on this piece of land, I knew this was the right place to start my homesteading adventure. Without any prior homesteading experience, I dove in head first on my own, and it’s been a rewarding and humbling experience.

I’m inspired by art in nature and sharing that beauty with others. With animals, I am drawn to everything splashy and spotted, and this is evident across the spotted goats, splash chickens and geese, and my focus on speckled olive eggs.

In addition to acquiring the cutest animals on the planet, the last two years have been spent building the rental house on the property, adding infrastructure like barns and fencing, clearing land, and improving the soil. Each day of work improves the property a little bit more, and I’ve got big dreams for the long term.
